Approximately 7 people in every 10 have not made a will and out of the 3 that have 2 will have wills that are out of date. Explaining Wills A will can be seen as a collection of trust designed to provide the right money (possessions) to the right people at the right time. It is of utmost importance that the majority of adults, particularly those who have partners, young families, own property and investments, maybe getting old an infirm make and ensure that their wills are updated. A legally compliant will can make sure that on your death :- your wishes are carried out and that the beneficiaries of your estate receive what you want to give to them; your children are properly taken care of through the appointment of guardians; Your estate, all of your financial assets and liabilities, is in the hands of people who you trust - your Trustees. There are no extensive & expensive delays through Probate; You have not left your estate for the Government to sort out; Your beneficiaries will not pay any unnecessary taxes. At the same time as making a will, it is prudent to consider making an Enduring Power of Attorney. This document enables you to appoint trusted friends to take care of your financial matters should you not be in a mental state to do so yourself, maybe through suffering a head injury as a result of an accident. The last thing you would want is to recover from such an accident only to find that your financial affairs are in disarray because no one had the authority to look after things whilst you were unable to.
